Fest - Apr 20 @ the Festivilla

The evening started off
innocently enough, I got to our singer's house to be greeted by his Godzilla dog
that can't control his bladder. So I started the evening off with German shepherd
urine on my shoes. MORE>>

by an angry

OK, so halfway through writing
this show review I started wondering what Oprah would think about this show in
particular. Don't ask why, that's just how my mind works sometimes. So I had to

The
Wailers - Apr 11 @ the Vogue
by Adrienne D. Porter
Thursday, April 11 was a
gorgeous day, temperate and sunny with potential for anything. I skipped out of
work early and went to meet friends for margaritas and conversation. We tossed
back a few 'ritas in the sun and basked in the perfection of the day. CB and I
had plans to go to the Wailers show at the Vogue. I was just hoping my body could
keep up with my buzz. MORE>>

Even
Homer Nods EP

The
Greenhornes / Pop Lolita / the one hundreds / The Brand Plastic - 4/19 @ the Patio
(Moxy's B-day!) Preview
by Moxy
I get asked often what bands
get the attention of my cd player. For over a year, my most enthusiastic and consistent
answer has been the Greenhornes from Cincinnati. The Greenhornes are best described
as a psych garage rock band in the true spirit of the Animals. Without fail, their
self- titled debut album has been in regular rotation in my cd changer since I
was first introduced to their music. MORE>>

Pop
Lolita - Smokerings and Halos
CD Review by Steve Hayes
I'm a sucker for records
that crackle with energy. Albums like 'With The Beatles,' 'The Pretenders,' and
'This Year's Model' grab you at the first note and refuse to release you until
the needle is on the inner groove of side two. These are the records that I listen
to when I need to drive somewhere in a hurry. I'm excited to say that Pop Lolita's
'Smokerings and Halos' captures the same energy as each of the legendary recordings
I mentioned. MORE>>

Buckra
- Apr 13 @ Birdy's
Copy by Joh Padgett
You know it's going to be
an interesting evening when the lead singer, while introducing his band, manages
to make reference to an obscure '80s television show set in Indy called 'Hello
Larry' which starred McLean Stevenson (of M*A*S*H* fame). And interesting is what
was delivered - fresh, piping hot and delicious tunes from the boys in Buckra.

...And
You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead / Explosions In The Sky - Mar 22 @ Radio
Radio
Copy/Pics by
T.C.
At one point, the stage gear begins to wobble from the thrashing, the cymbal stands
tumble and the cabinets teeter. I wonder if a full-fledged blast is coming, but
I don't need it. I realize that I'm witnessing an event that proves to me that
current music isn't always a pale, impotent parody of Rock's original, vital essence.

D.R.I./Paradox
44/Suicide Note/Run Devil Run/The Hoods @ The Emerson Theater 3/31/02
Copy/Pics by
St. Mykal
It was hard and heavy Sunday
night at The Emerson, with a slew of bands opening for the truly old school hardcore
outfit, D.R.I. Attendance was definitely up from the last time I was able to catch
the 'Imbeciles when they came through last year. The group was celebrating a history
of their hardcore speed metal meets punk music spanning two decades with the tour
"20 Dirty Rotten Years Together". MORE>>

Coal
Chamber/Ill Nino/40 Below Summer/Rumor Factor - Mar 27 @ Murat Egyptian Room
Copy by Jorge
Jumanji
This was a big event for
Bloomington's Rumor Factor. Being asked to open the show in Indianapolis for a
line up of national heavy acts is no small feat. Rumor Factor kicked it old school,
or new school retro, with chunky hard guitar and a steady rock force. The foursome
stuck to their guns for the set, keeping the momentum going forward with minimal
guitar leads and thick humbucker backed rhythms. It was stripped down raw hard
rock, almost like The Cult but without the frills and hair. MORE>>

Duvall
Standing at the Door
CD review by Jesse Charles
The first Duvall EP is catchier
than a cold. There are a mere 4 tracks on the disc, but in the 6 days that I've
owned it, I have learned all the words. It is a sing along CD, plain and clear,
not to mention the fact that this has more pop appeal than 90% of the music you'd
hear on MTV's TRL. MORE>>
