"IMN put my music on The Indy MP3 Project. With over 15,000 copies distributed so far. (And I have no "connections" either). I also got my first gig (after a 10 year hiatus) as a result of meeting people here."

Quotes from users ...
"As one of year's best success stories, www.indianapolismusic.net hasn't benefited a particular artist but helped connect a previously disjointed community"
-- Dave Lindquist, Indianapolis Star
"There certainly would be no Benchmark if not for IMN. No Battle of the Bands (at least not in its present state). No Midwest Music Summit. And those are just some of the things that directly involve me. Think about how many events have come to fruition because someone counted on promoting it via IMN. Counted on it".
-- Jeff Zuckerman, Vice President, Benchmark Records
"IMN is the Gold Standard for music in Indianapolis."
-- Dave Lindquist, Indianapolis Star
"It's the virtual equivalent of the one bar where EVERYONE goes to say hi to each other. I definitely know a lot more people than I used to due to this site. It's made a lot of informal connections that bring people closer, and that's more important than even the business connections."
-- Paul Pogue, Nuvo Newsweekly
"From jazz and blues to rock-n-roll, Indianapolis music fans will find what they're looking for on one CD from our talented, local musicians."
-- Mayor Bart Peterson, Indianapolis, IN
(In regards to the 2004 Indy Mp3 Project)
"Thank You! Indy Music Net is awesome, even for little unknown local bands. I'm 142 miles from Indy and have gotten 6 gigs in the last year just from being listed, so thank you for the site and the help!!"
-- Rik Menconi,Crown Point, IN
"IMN put my music on The Indy MP3 Project. With over 15,000 copies distributed so far. (And I have no "connections" either). I also got my first gig (after a 10 year hiatus) as a result of meeting people here. What I've done for IMN...Well, hmmmm... Nothing really. What I've paid IMN... That's another zero from my part."
-- Mike Turner, local musician

GETTING PUBLICITY ON IMN
CD Reviews
Local CDs - If you are a band or artist based in central Indiana (defined loosely as the space south of Highway 28 and north of US 50), send your CD to IMN, c/o [NEW ADDRESS COMING - PLEASE DO NOT USE THE OLD ADDRESS - THANKS]. Please note that by sending a CD to us, you are consenting to having a review, good or bad, published of your work by a reviewer of our picking. We do not return CDs sent for review.
We prefer recent releases and they will get priority, but we will consider whatever is your band's most recent CD release for review. All genres are welcome. Please - no records previously reviewed on IMN. Retail-ready CDs available for purchase will get priority over demos and previews.
Other CDs - If you are not based in Indiana, but still want your CD reviewed on IMN, send it to the mailing address above. IMN partners with shotgunreviews.com for national/regional record reviews.
Artist of the Week
If you want to be considered for Artist of the Week, please contact Ryan Williams at ryan@indianapolismusic.net. Artist of the Week is typically tied to an event like a CD release show, major showcase, etc. Please be sure to highlight what event you have coming when contacting Ryan. The earlier, the better.
Top 10
Our weekly Top 10 shows list is voted on by a panel of music journalists representing online, print, radio, and television. If you wish to have your show considered for the Top 10, please be sure to post your show on the IMN calendar at least two weeks before the show date. We collect information from our calendar as well as venue Web sites to create our weekly candidate list.
Show Previews/Reviews
Show reviews are done at the discretion of the IMN editorial staff and dictated by the availability of reviewers/photographers to cover your event. If you have an event you would like reviewed, please send an e-mail to steve@indianapolismusic.net at least four weeks before the event for consideration.
Event Sponsorship
Indianapolis music sponsors a number of local music events and festivals throughout the year. If you have a special event you would like to pitch for IMN sponsorship, please send your proposal via e-mail to both steve@indianapolismusic.net and ryan@indianapolismusic.net. NOTE - IMN cannot supply any monetary sponsorship for an event.
WRITING/PHOTOGRAPHING FOR IMN
IMN relies on a staff of volunteers to provide photos, reviews, previews, interviews, and the other content that makes this the most active music resource in Indianapolis. Plus IMN is a great training ground for launching your journalism career. IMN volunteers have gone on to write for the Indianapolis Star, INtake, and NUVO. Others have become published authors, radio/TV personalities, and other professional careers. If you are interested in contributing to IMN, please do the following:
Writers - contact Steve Hayes at steve@indianapolismusic.net. If you have any existing writing samples (preferably music reviews/previews/etc.), send them along. Let him know what you're interested in doing.
Photographers - contact Ryan Williams at ryan@indianapolismusic.net. If you have any photo samples (preferably live performance shots), send them as well. Let him know what equipment you have at your disposal.
Covering national shows/ticketed events - IMN has been able to forge a close relationship with local venues and promoters to get press access to the major events coming through Indianapolis. To be considered for covering a national event, you must first cover at least two smaller local events for IMN. Once you've done that, we work on a "one local event earns one national event" system. Show assignments are done exclusively by the IMN editorial team at their own discretion. Photographers must have access to equipment capable of shooting close-up shots without flash at a distance to be considered for some national events.
