Jethro Easyfields says he makes “roots rock with an edge. I tend to combine folk, blues, rock and punk elements in my creations...songs and recordings.” It’s the style in which he makes it that’s worth noting. A veteran of playing big stages and busking streets both, Easyfields says his creative process is a product of the travels he undertakes. “One gig connects to another, I meet people from all walks of life that push me further.”
Easyfields began performing in Fort Wayne 18 years ago, and although he’s based in Indianapolis now, he’s taken his music all over the country. This summer, his touring plans include “ Nashville, Memphis, the Ozarks, St. Louis and back to every town in Indiana.” He also plans an extended stay in New Orleans. “The last week of April I am visiting my second home New Orleans to work on a recording session with members of the band Cool Coyote. They are recording one of my songs.”

Songs and guitars are what Easyfields bases his musical career around. He says the creative process usually takes place “Usually at home, no radio, no TV, no distractions. Just let the head unload and the brain digress. Although co-writing happens with others and the delivery is together and intuitive.” He also helps other songwriters express themselves by hosting open stages. Easyfields’ previous responsibility was at the Hideaway on Hillside, which has since closed and moved to a new location at 56 th and Keystone. Easyfields says the Locals Only stage will feature “acoustic songwriters, electric jammers, rock-funk, hip hop and classic rock rip-offs. I hope to let all express themselves the best way they can. Unique and positive...”
In addition to the recordings he now sells on his website and from his guitar case, Easyfields will be recording a new CD. “I will be putting down some solo/duo acoustic tracks for a CD release at the end of the summer.” And the inspiration still comes from his travels. “I'm drawn to where people frequent, whether it is downtown on the street, in a bar or next to a river. I like to go to places where the vibe is the spirits that once walked there. Unsung heroes and folks with a story.”
